Community Guidelines

Last updated: August 2, 2026|Effective: August 2, 2026

These Guidelines explain, in plain language, what's allowed on Jamia. They're incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service.

Overview

Jamia exists to connect Muslim communities around their masjid, prayer times, events, and each other. Everyone posting content, an individual member, a masjid admin, a job poster, or a business owner, is expected to act in good faith and represent themselves and their content honestly.

1. Prohibited Content & Conduct

  • Child sexual abuse material of any kind (zero tolerance, see our Child Safety Standards).
  • Harassment, threats, hate speech, or targeted abuse of another user.
  • Impersonating another person, masjid, business, or organisation.
  • Spam, scams, or unsolicited commercial messages.
  • Content that is obscene, defamatory, or promotes illegal activity.
  • False or misleading claims about your identity, affiliation, or credentials.

2. Business Reviews

Reviews should be honest, first-hand accounts of your own experience. Not allowed:

  • Reviews for a business you have not actually patronised.
  • Reviews written in exchange for payment or incentives, without disclosure.
  • Personal attacks on a business owner or staff member rather than feedback on the business.
  • A review posted to retaliate against a business for an unrelated dispute.

Anyone can report an individual review; a report does not automatically remove the business listing itself, only the reported review is evaluated.

3. Job & Business Listings

  • Job and business listings, including any "Muslim-owned" designation, are self-declared by the poster and are not independently verified by Jamia. Posting a false designation is a Terms violation.
  • Salary ranges, requirements, and application details must be accurate at the time of posting.
  • External application links must lead to a legitimate application process, not a phishing page or unrelated site.

4. Janazah & Sick-Visit Posts

  • Only post a janazah or sick-visit request for real, current situations, with the consent of the person concerned (or their family, for a janazah).
  • These posts are not an emergency service. For an urgent medical or safety emergency, contact local emergency services directly, not through Jamia.
  • Do not use this feature to broadcast unrelated announcements or solicitations.

5. Reporting

Every profile, listing, review, and post has a report option. Reports go to our platform admin team and are not visible to the person you reported.

6. Enforcement Ladder

Depending on severity, we may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Dismiss, if a report doesn't describe a violation of these Guidelines.
  • Content removal, the specific reported item (a review, listing, post, or profile) is taken down.
  • Account suspension or ban, for repeated or serious violations.
  • Law enforcement referral, where content indicates a crime, imminent harm, or child exploitation.

7. Appeals

If you believe a moderation action was made in error, email support@jamiaapp.com with your account email and a description of the content in question. We review appeals in the order received.
