Terms of Service

Last updated: October 19, 2026|Effective: October 19, 2026

Key things to know

  • You must be 13+ to use Jamia, and 18+ to request a nikah appointment or book a sick visit.
  • Donations go directly to your masjid. Jamia is a technology provider, not a financial intermediary.
  • You can close your account at any time and your data will be deleted within 30 days.
  • US users: disputes are resolved through individual binding arbitration, not court, and you waive the right to a class action (§13). You can opt out within 30 days of creating your account.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Jamia mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Osymandias LLC, a Georgia (USA) limited liability company, doing business as "Jamia" ("we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use Jamia's general features. We verify this via a mandatory date-of-birth entry during account setup; see our Child Safety Standards for how this is enforced.
  • You must be at least 18 years old to request a nikah appointment or to book a sick visit.
  • If the age of majority in your jurisdiction of residence is higher than 18, you must also have reached that age, or have your parent or guardian's consent, to enter into these Terms.
  • By using either of these features you confirm you are 18 or older and that the date of birth you provided is accurate.
  • By creating an account you confirm you are part of a Sunni Muslim community, as Jamia is built to serve Sunni Islamic communities in the countries where the Service is offered.
  • If you are using the Service on behalf of a masjid or organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms and, separately, to our Masjid Admin Agreement.

2. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@jamiaapp.com if you suspect unauthorised access. You may not share your account with another person or create an account on behalf of someone else without their consent.

3. Acceptable Use

Zero tolerance. Jamia has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. By accepting these Terms you agree not to post objectionable content or abuse other users. Content that breaks these Terms or our Community Guidelines is removed, and the accounts responsible are suspended or permanently banned. Every user can report content and block other users from within the app, and we review reports and act on them.

You agree not to:

  • Provide false, misleading, or inaccurate information, including in your masjid registration, business listing, or job posting.
  • Impersonate any person, masjid, business, or organisation, or falsely claim a business or job listing is "Muslim-owned" or otherwise misrepresent an affiliation.
  • Name a person in a "Muslim(s) work here" listing without their agreement, or add such a listing or entry without being a verified member with an active Pro subscription.
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
  • Post content that is obscene, discriminatory, defamatory, or violates any applicable law.
  • Like a business in exchange for payment or an incentive, or use extra accounts or coordinated activity to inflate a business's likes.
  • Use the Service to send spam or unsolicited messages.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or another user's account.
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or copy any part of the Service.
  • Use the Service for any purpose other than connecting with your Muslim community.

Full, plain-language content rules are set out in our Community Guidelines, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference.

4. User Content

You retain ownership of content you submit (photos, announcements, job listings, business descriptions). By submitting content you grant Jamia a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and distribute that content within the Service for the purpose of operating the platform.

You are solely responsible for content you post. Jamia does not pre-screen user content and acts only as a platform for it; we are not the publisher of, and do not endorse, any user-submitted content (including prayer-time overrides, announcements, or listings set by masjid admins, job posters, or business owners). We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to remove any content that violates these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or applicable law, without notice.

If you believe content on Jamia infringes your copyright, see our DMCA / Copyright Policy for how to submit a takedown notice.

5. Subscriptions

User subscriptions (Jamia Pro)

  • Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play on a recurring monthly or annual basis.
  • Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal.
  • To cancel, manage your subscription through your Apple ID settings (iOS) or Google Play account (Android).
  • We do not process refunds directly. Refund requests are subject to Apple's or Google's refund policies.
  • Subscription features are for personal use only and may not be shared.

Masjid subscriptions

  • Masjid admin subscriptions are billed through Stripe on the web dashboard (monthly or annual).
  • Access to paid admin features may be suspended if payment fails and is not resolved within a reasonable grace period.
  • Masjid listings that violate our Community Guidelines may be removed without refund.

Consumers in the EU and UK, right of withdrawal

If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract. Where a subscription is purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play, that store is the seller and its own withdrawal and refund process applies. For a masjid subscription billed by us through Stripe, you may withdraw within 14 days of purchase by emailing support@jamiaapp.com. Where you ask us to begin providing the service during the withdrawal period, you may be charged for what has already been supplied, and the right to withdraw ends once the service has been fully performed.

6. Donations & Refunds

Important, Jamia is not a financial intermediary

All donation funds are transferred directly to the receiving masjid's Stripe Connect account. Jamia does not collect, hold, or retain donation funds at any point. We are a technology provider, not a charity, fundraising platform, or money transmitter.

Jamia facilitates donations from users directly to masjids via Stripe Connect. Each masjid, not Jamia, is solely responsible for: (a) its own tax-exempt or charitable-registration status, (b) issuing any tax receipt, and (c) registering to solicit charitable contributions in every state, country, or jurisdiction where it does so, to the extent required by applicable law. Jamia makes no representation that any masjid holds charitable or tax-exempt status, or that a donation is tax-deductible, and does not verify a masjid's charitable registration before enabling donations.

Refunds

  • Donations are voluntary charitable contributions and are non-refundable once they have been transferred to the receiving masjid, except where required by law or at the sole discretion of the receiving masjid.
  • To request a donation refund, contact the receiving masjid directly; Jamia does not hold the funds and cannot reverse a transfer once it has settled.
  • Program/event enrollment fees and other paid listings follow the cancellation terms stated on that listing at the time of purchase, where applicable.

7. Sick-Visit Requests

Sick-visit requests, no background checks, use independent judgment

Jamia does not conduct criminal background checks, identity verification beyond standard account verification, or any vetting of a person who posts or books a sick-visit request. Jamia is not a party to, and does not supervise, arrange, or guarantee, any in-person visit — it only facilitates the connection between a host and a visitor.

By posting or booking a sick-visit request you acknowledge:

  • If you post a request, you are solely responsible for deciding who to admit to your home or hospital room, and for the security of your own property before, during, and after a visit. Jamia is not responsible for theft, property damage, or any other harm arising from a visit arranged through the Service.
  • If you book a visit, you are solely responsible for exercising your own judgment and assume your own risk in visiting a stranger's home or hospital room. Jamia is not responsible for any harm that comes to you during or arising from that visit.
  • Information you post (including the person's name, notes, and any address or contact details revealed after booking) must be truthful, and shared with the consent of the person concerned.
  • Jamia's address-privacy design (an approximate area shown before booking, a real address revealed only after) reduces but does not eliminate the risk inherent in connecting with a stranger for an in-person visit.
  • These acknowledgments are in addition to, and do not replace, the general disclaimers in §11 and limitation of liability in §12, both of which also apply to sick-visit requests.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Osymandias LLC and its officers, employees, and agents from any claim, liability, damage, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your violation of these Terms, (b) your content, or (c) your conduct in an in-person interaction arranged through the Service, including sick-visit requests. This does not apply to the extent a claim arises from our own negligence, fraud, or breach of these Terms, or to the extent it would exclude or limit a non-excludable consumer right described in §12.

9. Masjid Accounts

Masjid accounts must represent genuine Islamic places of worship. We reserve the right to verify masjid registration details and to suspend or remove accounts that we determine are not genuine or that violate these Terms. Masjid admins are responsible for ensuring their published content (prayer times, announcements, events, fundraisers) is accurate, and for their organisation's compliance obligations described in the Masjid Admin Agreement, which governs masjid accounts alongside these Terms.

10. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or permanently ban your account if you violate these Terms, engage in harmful behaviour, or misuse the Service. Serious violations (fraud, harassment, CSAM) result in immediate permanent termination and may be reported to law enforcement.

You may close your account at any time via Settings → Privacy → Delete my account. Closing your account cancels future subscription charges (your billing provider will apply their own policy for the current period) and initiates deletion of your personal data within 30 days.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses.

  • Prayer times: times are calculated using a chosen calculation method (e.g. ISNA, MWL, Hanafi, Moonsighting Committee) and may be overridden by a masjid's own posted schedule. Calculated times can differ from your local masjid's actual times or moon-sighting determination. Jamia is not a substitute for your masjid's own announced prayer and iqamah times, and we make no warranty regarding their accuracy.
  • Religious content: nothing in the Service (including prayer times, masjid-provided content, or any religious reference material) constitutes a religious ruling (fatwa) or a substitute for guidance from a qualified scholar. Consult your local imam or a qualified scholar for religious rulings.
  • User-submitted content: we make no warranty regarding the accuracy of masjid information, job listings, business listings (including self-declared claims such as "Muslim-owned"), or any other user-submitted content, and do not verify such claims before publication.
  • Community alerts: janazah and sick-visit posts are community-submitted and are not an emergency notification service. For a medical emergency or immediate danger, contact your local emergency services directly. We do not verify the identity of anyone who posts a sick-visit request or of anyone who books a visiting slot; exercise your own judgment before sharing an address or visiting one shared with you.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Jamia and its officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or harm arising from third-party content or from an in-person interaction arranged through the Service (including sick-visit requests). Our total aggregate liability to you shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) £50 / €50 / $50.

Consumers, limits on these exclusions

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted by the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence.

13. Governing Law, Arbitration, and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales for users in the UK and the EU, and by the laws of the State of Delaware for users in the US, Canada, and all other jurisdictions, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.

Consumers in the EU, your local law still protects you

If you are a consumer habitually resident in an EU member state, the choice of law above does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your own country, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence. The European Commission provides an online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are not obliged, and are not willing, to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.

Consumers in Australia and New Zealand, your local law still protects you

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy conferred on you by the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)), the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (NZ), the Fair Trading Act 1986 (NZ), or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified. To the extent our liability to you is capable of limitation under such laws, it is limited, at our option, to the resupply of the Service or the cost of resupplying the Service. Nothing in this section limits any right you have to bring proceedings in the courts of your own country of residence.

Before initiating formal proceedings, we ask that you email support@jamiaapp.com to attempt informal resolution. Both parties agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve disputes within 30 days.

Binding arbitration (US users)

This section affects your legal rights

If you are a resident of the United States, you and Jamia agree to resolve disputes through individual binding arbitration instead of in court, and you waive your right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action. This section does not apply to consumers resident in the EU, UK, Australia, or New Zealand.

  • Agreement to arbitrate. Except for claims that qualify for small-claims court and disputes about the enforceability, validity, or scope of this arbitration section, you and Jamia agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively through final and binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court.
  • Class action and jury trial waiver. You and Jamia each waive the right to a jury trial and to bring or participate in a class, collective, or representative action against the other. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not preside over any form of a class or representative proceeding.
  • Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing support@jamiaapp.com with the subject "Arbitration Opt-Out" within 30 days of first creating your account, including your name and account email. Opting out does not affect the rest of these Terms.
  • Small claims carve-out. Either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court instead of arbitration if the claim qualifies.
  • Fees. Payment of arbitration fees is governed by the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules, which may require us to cover certain fees for consumer claimants.
  • Severability. If the class-action waiver is found unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim (and only that claim) will proceed in court rather than arbitration, and the remainder of this arbitration section will still apply.

Canada

For users in Canada, if mandatory arbitration or the class-action waiver above is unenforceable under the consumer-protection law of your province — for example, the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario) or the Consumer Protection Act (Quebec), both of which restrict mandatory arbitration clauses and class-action waivers in consumer contracts — the parties will resolve the dispute in the courts of that province instead, and the class-action waiver will still apply to the fullest extent permitted by that province's law.

Australia and New Zealand

For users in Australia or New Zealand, mandatory pre-dispute arbitration and the class-action waiver above do not apply to the extent they would be inconsistent with your non-excludable rights under the Australian Consumer Law or the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (NZ). Where that is the case, the dispute will instead be resolved in the courts of your state, territory, or country of residence, and nothing in this section limits any right you have to make a complaint to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) or the New Zealand Commerce Commission.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification or email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
